Coach Guidelines

Career Discussion Guide

  • Review candidate’s resume (sent over email) and top career challenges (such as finding the right role, learning required skills, getting interview calls, getting the final offer). 
 
  • Candidate’s comments are available under appointment details in the coach dashboard.
 
  • Prepare an plan for the candidate that he/she can follow to address their challenges. Specific examples, personal stories and actionable takeaways work best. Here is a Sample Feedback from Mentor Me Good built using a coach’s feedback submission.
  • Join the zoom video call (link in  coach dashboard) on time. Sign in to your Zoom account associated with Mentor Me Good admin account to start the meeting
 
  • Learn about candidate background and questions in detail. Be curious to learn what they have done so far to seek clarity.
 
  • Share your plan of action and answer any questions that they may have. Point the candidate to additional resources like websites, books.

Resume Review Guide

 
  • Incorporate candidate’s comments, target companies, roles, etc, available under appointment details in the coach dashboard
  • Join the zoom video call (link in  coach dashboard) on time. Sign in to your Zoom account associated with Mentor Me Good admin account to start the meeting
 
  • Introduce yourself and learn about candidate’s background and career goals.  (~10 mins)
 
  • Part 1 of meeting- Provide overall feedback. Talk about 4-5 key attributes/skills that the resume should showcase for the specific role that customer is targeting. Talk about the strengths and gaps in the current resume. Walkthrough the comments you added in the resume.  Explain your feedback using examples. (~20 mins)
 
  • Part 2 of meeting – For each bullet, understand what candidate did and its impact to improve the bullet. We recommend going deep by asking questions on the situation, candidate’s actions, beneficiaries (internal or external customers), metrics impacted etc. to aid the process. Note down a couple of revised bullet points. You can ask candidate to make notes for the remainder. (~25mins)
 
  • Answer questions as you go along. Based on your assessment of the candidate’s passion and potential fit in your company, offer internal referral. (~5 mins)
  • Submit the Resume Feedback using form below.  Attach resume with comments as well as couple of revised resume points.
 
  • Admin team will share the feedback and resume with the candidate  

Mock Interview Guide

  • Review candidate’s desired role and company  based on appointment comments.
 
  • Review their existing resume. Candidate’s resume will be shared over email and comments are available under appointment details in the coach dashboard.
 
  • Prepare company and role specific 3-5 interview questions. If candidate specified any particular type of question that he wants to improve on, prepare those questions.  In most cases coaches are aware of the desired company interview process since they worked there or we recommend to refer to Mentor Me Good Mock Interview 101 blog or Google search to come up with set of questions.
  • Join the zoom video call (link in  coach dashboard) on time. You need to sign in to your Zoom account associated with Mentor Me Good admin account to start the meeting.
 
  • Introduce yourself and set expectations with the candidate on how you plan to use the 60 mins for mock interview and feedback. We recommend 45 minutes for interview and last 15 minutes for feedback 
 
  • Provide actionable feedback and answer additional questions related to job search, company as needed. You may point to books, blogs or other mentors on Mentor Me Good as needed.

Upskill Guide

  • Review desired skill that candidate wants to learn during the meeting and upskill goal (interview prep or career transition /growth). These details are available under appointment details in the coach dashboard
 
  • We expect candidates book meetings with you based on your areas of expertise. If you are not comfortable with the requested skill, please decline the meeting. 
  • Join the zoom video call (link in  coach dashboard) on time. Sign in to your Zoom account associated with Mentor Me Good admin account to start the meeting
 
  • We recommend taking following approach but you can take the approach that works best for you: 1) Start with example of a customer problem/situation where the skill is applicable 2) Walkthrough how you will apply the skill to solve this problem and potential results. 3) Share more industry examples. You can share your screen where needed. 4) Answer questions and share resources such as blogs, books or courses to gain further understanding of the topic. 
 
  • We recommend to limit the number of skills or subject area to 2 per meeting to provide deep dive. We do not expect candidate to become expert post 1 hour of meeting.
